Good afternoon everyone,

As I build my Cruzer, I wanted to have moving map and ADS-B (In) on some type of mobile platform that was cost effective while I fly other aircraft. Everyone has heard of Foreflight, but some people may not have an Ipad or want to save a few bucks by not having to pay for a subscription. Through my research I have found a solution that you may or may not of known. One is a free EFB app with free geo-referenced charts for IPAD and Android devices. This is called "FLTPLAN Go". Many similarities to paid apps and is very capable. Using this with a self built Stratux, will provide a lot of situational awareness in your cockpit. I will throw some links below that show how easy it is to build your own Stratux. It can be built as a single band ADS-B dual band ADS-B and with a GPS addition. I hope this helps for your SA in the cockpit. I am going to be building mine tonight with my daughter!

Good point about a great cost effective (free) alternative.  I currently use an Android app called AVARE which is also free and has almost all of the features of FLTPLAN Go with an interface that I like better.

Also use AVARE, love it

Thanks for the info.

Yep, that's the problem... <grin> all these neat, low-cost gadgets and gizmos -- and no translation for the baby-boom crowd... My great-grandson (4yo -- yes, really) found features on my old kindle that I'd never discovered in three years of use...

I shouldn't have been so doubtful -- I watched the YouTube, and this seems doable, if not the simplest thing for me -- volts, amps and things that sizzle in the wet generally don't like me much...

It is not hard. You should try it if in need for ADS-B In.

If you get the parts, I can help you build it. You live about 15 minutes from me.

Dale -- I'll round up the parts... certainly not a rush since my bird is a long way from take-off, but this is an area I'm particularly weak in, so if you've got the time before summer I'd like to learn this (February is shot, but then the great-grandson leaves for a bit and I get more shop time).

Thanks !!!

It is even fun to play with at home. Email me at steeleshark2@hotmail.com. I will give you my cell number. When you get the parts call me and we will meet up. It won't be long and we can BS about flying in the process.

Sent you an email...
