So, I was preparing to install the ELT, Ameriking Corp AK-450.

I broke the arming swith! ¥€%#!!

I called and they said repeating would be $50 ~ $200.

Now I add cost of mailing and it i reality is cheaper to just buy a new one.

Does anybody know a way out of not throwing away another $200??

ThanKs,
Rich

Can you take the switch out and order a new one? The manufacturer and part number should be on the switch. Electronic supply sources such as Mouser or Newark should have it.

these are pretty simple devices and you can fix this. These 'service people' who charge a customer so much for a 10 minite repair are an insult to the word service. If you really do not want to tackle this ask some friends that are around the airport and eaa/pilot types. They will fix it for free. You are part of a great community of builders and fixers. Magic words ' I need some help'.

Any idea of where I find the switch?

I will start digging myself for a switch.

I have no problem doing it myself.

I guess I was / am unsure of any regulations that may be involved.

Of course I'll loose the warranty but I did that once I broke it.

Anyhow, I spoke with a group here at the airport yesterday and their welectromocs guy had already left.

Maybe I'll have a better day today!

Thanks for the reply.

Most "Mom & Pop" electronic stores carry a wide variety of weird switches.  You can probably switch it out with a different brand if necessary... just make sure the throws are the same but it doesn't have to look the same, just function the same.  Avionics repair shops usually = overpriced rip-off!

I apologize up front, but this might be your best course of action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-cIpmgsbac
