Floyd,

Still interested in making a Ft Worth Area Zenith Builders Group meeting.  Also, Doug Boggs (Ft. Worth 701 builder) is back in town after the holidays.  He's interested too.  You can reach him at Doug@DougBoggs.Com

I found a good Corvair engine to build since your last email... 3 years ago. I have two others that are not buildable, but have taken apart for the experience before doing my "real" one. Your engine looks sharp! How many hours do you have logged on your Corvair conversion?

Thanks for the friend request. Based on the photos, things are looking good. Give me a call on the weekend or any evening and we can discuss the training. (918-840-2200)

Here’s some more information on the training. I plan on charging $100 per hour dual (that’s wet) and $20 per hour for ground training. The ground rate will applied to pre-flight and post-flight briefing time. I’m trying to keep my rate about the same as dual for a C-150 but it’s not easy. It’s hard to believe that fuel alone is running about $30 per hour…oh well, we just have to get used to that. However, because I expect some training to come from a distance, I’ll put trainees up at my house for no cost. I have a unique separate bedroom and bath for a guest that really works well.

Regards

Earl

Thanks for getting back to me. I can tell there is a lot of enthusiasm out there that will help me complete my project(s). In a month I should have some money to resume search for a Corvair engine. I will try harder to find a Corvair club here in Vermont that may have a core. All the pictures available on line are certainly motivating me to keep focused on completing my CH750. I was ten years old when I had my first ride in a two-place Luscombe with my dad- that same excitement is in me now! Tom

I originally had the Bing carb on the Jabiru 3300 and it never worked properly at full throttle. The Rotec is much better but in that installation it has some minor issues that you may not have. The fuel is sprayed from a bar in the center of the carb opening. At full rich it sprays it to one side, as you pull the mixture leaner it changes the angle toward the incoming airflow. At full lean, it is directly into the incoming air. If there is not enough room after the carb for the air and fuel to mix, one can have uneven mixtures to the cylinders but then this is a problem with all carbs. If you can put some extra space between the carb and the manifold, it will probably help. I am working on the solution for the Jabiru now. I will post the results on photo.hubbles.com when I believe it is as good as it is going to get.

That would be great to have a meeting with other builders. I have been talking to Ron Ellis and Mike Herder at the chapter meetings about their 601's. I will be looking for you at the next meeting. BTW, I am in Hanger 927, mostly on weekends working on an office area in the hanger.
