My plans for my 750 Cruzer were shipped today, hooray! However something has puzzled me for the past year or so concerning the empty weight of the Cruzer. The Stol version is listed on the Zenith website as having a 775 lb empty weight with a Continental O-200 installed. Next to that the Cruzer is listed as having an empty weight of 780 lbs with a UL350is installed. I am confused as to why the Cruzer is heavier given that the engine weight of the UL must be 40 lbs or more lighter than the O-200. Does that mean the Cruzer is 45 lbs or more lbs heavier than the Stol? Where does the extra weight come from?

...or maybe the numbers are wrong. I just noticed the Zenith website has the Cruzer useful weight at the 1440lb design gross limit as 670 it should be 660. It could be wheel pants and larger tail but I think the wings probably use less material than the Stol. At 6'3" 205ish lbs and an even bigger big brother, useful weight may determine which engine installation is practical for my desired purpose.

I bet you that the answer from Zenith is going to be that the extra structure involved adds to the weight.  There is a "beefier" spar structure in the Cruzer that eliminates the need for dual/jury struts.
