Hey Jerry, thanks for the reply, cutting the form blocks sure does make alot of dust, especially if your using mdf board! That stuff really makes a mess. I made my rudder out of that and it turned out really nice. I switched to regualar pine 1x2x4 board makind the slats and elevator forms and I like it a whole lot better, and it leaves alot less dust! I have thought alot about the engine choice, I like the 0-200 myself but I have given some serious thought about the corvair with the fifth bearing. I did make a 3 foot brake from the plans I found on the net, it has worked out really nice, I use it for alot of smaller parts that the 750 has. What I have found out about tools is, get as much of the cheaper tools you can and borrow the rest! I started visting all the local machine shops around town and talking to everyone. One place I went to, the owner Les was such a great guy, I got to use his brake and shear. I told him that I would help out around the shop, so I swept up a few times. I have a few a&p friends at the local airport, and I can use their hand squeezer when it comes time for some solid rivets.
I'm in the garage tonight working on the slats, the z-bend is a tough one for me so far. Keep me updated on your plane and email or call me if I can help!
Hello Jerry, I've started to feel that I was all alone in the plans built 750. I have the rudder done, the horz tail ribs and front spar and the slat ribs. I am having problems locating a brake that is big enough for the horz spars. I used a 10 foot brake originally for the front and rear spars for the forz stab but the brake is about 100 years old and has alot of play in it. The front spar was great (.025) but the thicker rear spar was scrap. So, thats kind of got me in a stand still till I find another brake. How far along are you now?
