I'm starting a 750 build by purchasing plans and sub kits "as I go". Being I'm in Michigan and winter is comming, I'm starting in a basement workshop (as opposed to the garage). I haven't received the plans or the rudder kit yet, so I'm just getting the workshop ready.

How much room (work bench length) will I need to start building the wing kits? I'm starting with the tail feathers and will have plenty of room for those. I'm using the EAA work benches and have built (2) five footers so far.

Hi Dan, good luck on your build. I would recommend reading these to documents from Zenith the Construction Standards and the 701 construction manual. Both listed on the 750 builder site.

http://www.zenithair.com/stolch750/75up-manuals.html

As stated from the 701 contruction manual Zenith recomends a 4 x 12 or length of wing spar (750 3517mm or 11.5 ft), but the min. should be 8 foot. You should be fine at 10.

Hope to some new photos of your build.

Paul

Dan, if I was to do it over again I would start by building the tail feathers, ailerons, slats and flaps. That will give you plenty of metal building experience and those parts are easy to store, in the attic, hang on the wall, etc.

Then build the fuselage, this takes the most time. Install the instrument panel, etc. and as much of the FWF as possible. Put the fuselage on gear, roll and store.

The wings can be built in 4-6 weeks, the first taking the most time. Then your done and are ready to hang the wings. Following the standard build procedure leaves the most time consuming for last, better to get that out of the way as soon as possible.

Good luck, it will be a great Winter project.

Jake

If your building a CH750. Use the crate as a work bench. Wings and fuslage assemble best on a set of folding steel saw horses ($15 each) and two 4" X 4" steel tube railings 14 ft long. Start with Rudder, Horizontal stabilizer, Elevator, Wings... then Fuselage. Tail feather store easy...under your bed or closet.
