I have completed the tail and I am now starting on the fuselage.  I am scratch building.  I have a question on the L angles.  I would like some input on bending the angle out of stock or purchasing the L angles from spruce.  If purchased from spruce, what thickness?  Thanks for any input.

Casey - Most of your "L's" are .025 and that is sufficient for most applications. Scratch building is a long drawn-out process. You sacrifice your time to save money. Bend them yourself; once you put your mind to it you'll realize the savings and that it didn't take a whole lot of time. Of course that's providing you have at least the bender that Zenith has drawings for.

Good Luck!!

Chris

Thanks for your reply. Spruce does not make a "L" angle that thin. The thinnest is .0625. I guess to save weight, I am stuck bending, unless you know of someone who sells a .025 L angle prefabbed.  Hummmm.....Chris, do you know of anyone else that sells the rivets, other than Zenith, at a cheaper price?  Thanks for your help

Casey

Also, where did you buy your sheet metal. I have been using spruce, but there has to be someone cheaper.

I had purchased my original sheet and tubing order from Airparts, Inc. They usually have a booth at Sun-N-Fun and Oshkosh. Every now and then Spruce would be cheaper. I have purchased rivets from Spruce but to say I have searched the web for the CHEAPEST; I have not..... I manufactured my own "Ls" because I had built the Zenith brake. A phone call to Ms. Shirley at Zenith (573-581-9000) would be the quickest way to get those plans; if they're still available.

Best of building luck!

Chris

Chris, can you post a link to this Zenith bender?

Thanks,

Patrick

I'm not aware of a specific link. But I'm sure Ms. Shirley at Zenith (573-581-9000) can respond very quickly to that request.

Best of Luck!

Chris

Hey Chris, can you give me the part number of the rivets you purchased from Spruce.  Thanks

Casey - Approximately 95% of the rivets I used came from Zenith (my recommendation). The others I ordered from Spruce are Avex #16040412 1/8" rivet and #16040514 5/32" rivet.

Chris

Thank you so much for your reply.  I will call Shirley and see what she can do for me.
