To begin with I haven't been working on my plane lately due to a medical problem which I hope to clear up soon, hopefully in Jan 2019. It's nothing serious. I can get around,

but it's too cold in the garage to work right now.

Anyway when I started this project in July 2005. I now realize that scratch building was not the best choice. I just thought it was inexpensive at the time. It was at first. I bought all my aluminum at a local supplier in NH. I had a station wagon and could fit the aluminum very well in the back. I built the wing spars, ribs, rear spars and also had my longerons bent at my vocational school that I attended years ago. So all my ribs and spars are made. I have a two foot bending brake. I can make small parts no bigger than two feet. I had access to an aviation school that had a four foot and two foot shear that let me use them. That was a big help. There's a guy in my chapter that has a ten foot bending brake that I can use to bent my aerlerons and flaps when I get around to making the rest of the wing components. I made some parts to my gas tanks. Such as the two side panels and front panel. I can bend the skin to cover the tank on my brake. I have all the fittings, sending units and filler unit. I need someone to tig weld the tanks.

On my tail section, I started making all parts last Spring. Got most of the ribs main spar and skin. Just have to assemble. Oh I found out that the tail main spar dimension was wrong. My  ribs didn't fit right. So instead of bending a new spar, I ordered one from Zenith. Saved me from aggravation. The horizontal stab is bent. Just have to drill and flange the lightning holes. Make the front and rear ribs and skin. Ready for assembly and mount it on the fuselage. So all this work must be completed so I can put it on the gear. Take it up to our chapter hangar. We have two hangars to work on our homebuilts. The next thing to do is build my wings and then take them up there..

It seems I had more written blog here and it wasn't posted. So here goes. I have a partially built Corvair engine. Have the two case halves all cleaned. Two heads with ground intake and exhaust valves. Heads must be machined to accept the Y tube for the carburetor, which I have both Y tube and carb. Carb has one jet missing, but have the specs paperwork to get the number for the jet. You may have to send the carb out for cleaning. Have new cylinders pistons, piston rings. Connecting rods mounted on the pistons. Gold hub, starter ring gear and mounting kit for Subaru starter with special gears to fit the starter ring gear. Crankshaft

ground 10/10. Crank must be sent out for the fifth bearing. Have push rods and push rod tubes. New distributor and spark plug hub cap. Oil pump and other accessories have to see what else I have.

Now I have to make a decision wether to continue or sell the whole project. I'm not getting any younger. If I decide to build another plane, it's going to be a KIT! No more scratch. Getting too old for that BS! If any one is interested I'll make you a good deal. Bob S.
