Looks like there is a significant upgrade available for the 912iS. It is now called the 912iS Sport. A new airbox and software upgrade (plus a few other minor goodies) result in a higher torque curve. It looks like the parts are free for a limited time for those of us that already have the iS engine. Yay for Rotax! I'm pumped! http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/Rotax-Upgrade-Promises-Fuel-Sa...

I spoke to the Australian agent today. He says that the reshaping of the Torque curve gives the engine more continuous power and much more in the 5000-5300 rpm band. He is an engine expert (ex motorcycle racing) and reckons that the performance along with fuel economy is going to be stunning. He has added me to the list for a free upgrade kit and since my engine is still in its box, its just a short drive across town to get it fitted.

When I heard that the airbox is 27mm taller, I immediately emailed Michael to ask about the new cowl for the FWF kit. Maybe posting his reply will save him some emailing:

"Yes, I heard the announcement! It came to me as a surprise!

But the fellows at Skytek who developed the new cowling and were working directly with the Canadian Rotax importer were forewarned; they made the cowl in such a way that it fits all versions of the 912iS and 914, including with the latest upgrade."

P.S. I'm sure Rotax have a turbocharged, fuel injected 912 in the works somewhere, however I guess they will announce it the day after my first flight:)

Yes Bob, that would be nice. There are getting to be a few of those in service and it sounds like they are holding up. Kind of makes one wonder if and when Rotax will choose to enter the 150 to 200hp  marketplace that so many airframes are designed for. For now, I will be happy just to get my iS started for the first time. I appreciate Rotax passing along their improvements to us gratis. Not many companies are willing to do that.

Interesting... what about a Rotax 912S "turbo" putting out 135+ Hp ?

Now that is exciting :>)
