Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Engineering students built this Zenith STOL CH 750 "Sky Jeep" light sport utility aircraft from a kit to better understand the demands and expectations of the aviation industry even before they step out to the workforce. This first made-in-a-college in Singapore plane also includes the Dynon glass cockpit and instrumentation, and 100-hp Rotax 912 ULS engine installation. The project, which took off in 2014, enables students to learn about the various roles and responsibilities of aerospace personnel. Students also discover the best practices in the regulated aviation industry while assembling the aircraft.
Nanyang Polytechnic is a junior college located in the precinct of Yio Chu Kang in the town of Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. As an industry-oriented alternative to a broader based junior college education, polytechnic graduates in Singapore are sought after for work or many continue to complete university degrees.
Building an airplane as a group is a wonderful project, with great educational opportunities. Best of all, you get to fly the airplane once complete, making it a truly impressionable learning experience.
