Now 23 hrs into phase 1 test and all is well. Just finished a 80 mile trip to check fuel consumption on the UL 350. 7.3 gallons in 1.4 hrs.

Well, as you get time in the zenith you might call the DAR and see if he would extend your radius for phase 1. Tell him you want to check fuel consumption and x country performance. He might revise the operating limitations. Wouldn’t hurt to ask. Did your DAR allow the carrying of “essential to the flight” passengers in your phase 1 limitations?

I'm surrounded by farms and desert for 50-100 miles but also by a lot of Restricted Areas and MOAs so my DAR was reluctant to give me anything that included them. At the time I thought it would be fine but 40 hours in a 10x10 box is going to get old.

That was out and back. The DAR gave me a 50 mile radius do to the relatively low population density of the area. Great flight though. Next summer is going to be a hoot with all the remote strips we have outback. Can’t wait
