My DAR has asked me to pick a 50 sq mile area for my phase 1, but I was expecting a 25 mike radius, I suppose that's plenty

Part of my problem is that I have Mexico 25 miles to the south, plus three large towns that the FSDO says I can't fly over. And then east I have a huge restricted area, and west I have the Salton Sea. So maybe I shouldn't have been surprised.

Anyway, we've agreed a 10 x 10 mile box that has a couple of airports in it, so I think it will be fine. And, I've still got to pass the inspection before I moan about the flying area.

Thanks for all the comments, interesting to see what other people got.

I asked for (and recieved) a test area outside of my home field area, which was under Class B.  They gave me a "corridor", and then an irregular shaped region (which I'd specifically requested).  Map of it is here:  N63PZ Phase 1 Area

I would clarify that, since it is so restrictive, or are you in a highly congested area that would warrant that?

Barring that, any possibility of getting a different DAR?

My DAR allowed me to select a 50 mile radius centered on my reference of choice, which was not my home airport. This allowed me to have more room away from the restricted areas near my home field. Not sure if this is standard, but worked out for me.

Wow, 30 months Os by 75 miles? That's awesome.

My DAR said I could do a 25 mile radius but I'm so hemmed in by restricted areas that I ended up defining a 15 x 10 mile box.

Wow. I am in southeast Nebraska and my DAR outlined an area of about 30 by 75 miles.

So not a good surprise.... sorry to hear it… 40 hours will go quickly.

Hi Daniel, I got a 50 sq mile area so basically a 10 mile by 5 mile box, not a 50 mile radius. Going to be very boring circles in that small area for 40 hours.

Sounds like a pleasant surprise. My DAR gave me a 50 mile radius also.
