Thanks Norm, I will try the ratchet strap around the fuselage next time around. Sounds much easier.

PS. on a normally/correctly balanced CH 701 with middle of the CG datum - I wonder what amount of weight is needed to balance the tail and lift the nosewheel??

When I work on the nose gear I use a ratchet rope around the rear fuselage just in front of the rudder strake. I tie it to my tail tiedown (in fhe ground) .
This way I dont have to calcutate how much weight is necessary to keep the nose in the air. Just saying. I will use this method when I install my Steel bungee from Viking.

BTW - regarding the CG - I've heard different amounts necessary to lower the tail. Do you know if there is a range or average or optimum amount of weight to lift the nose wheel. I know that this may not be totally accurate but some owners have also commented on how many 701's are built and flying in Nose Heavy configuration. Being a glider pilot as well, a nose heavy CG will greatly control sensitivity, efficiency in soaring, as well as landings.

Thanks, I figured it out and did the same with a extra 60 lb bag of Cement mix I had laying around.

I hung a bucket with about 25 lbs of rocks on the tail tie-down, and then after pulling the tail down I put a stand under the engine. Worked fine.
