Hi Dave,

I didn't work on my plane as much as I wanted to should have this summer but have started working on it more lately. A couple of our guys are working like great guns and one of them is almost ready for first engine start (912ULS). Right now, I am polishing the fuselage. I decided that because I have nowhere to paint and coupled with the fact that I absolutely dread the thought of painting, I would try polishing. Sooo, polishing is also a dreadful job but I still do not like it less than painting. I am polishing in my garage and now it looks like the inside of a coal mine.... Everything is black except the fuse is nice and shiney! I wanted to polish while I could turn the fuse on its side and polish the bottom without laying on my back. I also just modified my cockpit cage to version 3 plans which is basically the beanie mod and I will be taking many of my steel parts to have powder coated. I know many don't like powder coating but I like the durability of it. Hopefully after the plane is 5 or 10 years old, the cockpit cage, stick, etc will still look good and not be all nicked up.

I am still planning on installing the 912iS. I am waiting for Rotec in Vernon, BC to work through the firewall forward on their CH750 912iS install. Once they have the engine mount and procedures I will likely put down a deposit and  wait until the iS's are available to the general smoe....

Yes, being able to use regular fuel is a strong incentive to use the 80hp engine. Doug Macdonald has an 80 hp on his 701 and he says it is fine but he wants to change to either a ULS or a 914 because he wants to put it on floats and he feels the 80 is not enough for floats. I can vouch for its reliability. One of my friends has an 80hp on his Titan Tornado and that engine seems to be bulletproof. It runs so smooth!

So, I saw your picture from yesterday. Is that plane going to one of your partners'?

Hopefully you will get at least the first one in the air soon.

Cheers,

Joe

joe how are you getting along? id love to see some pics of your progress. still planing on the 912is? im waffaling over the 80hp or the injected. the 80hp sounds inviteing because of the low octain it can take plus everyone keeps going on about the relibity of it....
