We got five 2x2 four foot tubes of aluminum that have been a real help setting up the parts when they are clecoed. tried using wood but good wood is really hard to find and you need the full four inches or two inches elevation.
Tom Lester and I started this project October 08 and are working about three days/wk for about six hours. Estimate 500 hours thus far. We are going to the factory next week to get the fuselege, slats and flaperons. The wings and tail feathers are finished. The kit is well laid out and all the predrilled holes have lined up as expected. In a way I think we are doing the easier parts and will have more of a challange on the fuselege and controls.
We placed the gas guage on top of the tank...there was enough space and I like the idea of the guage on top of the tank. We put in a Dynon pitot on the left wing just out from the strut fitting. Not sure we will go with the Dynon or a simple panel like a Cub. I have a Zenith altimeter made about 1920 by Zenith Instrument Company. That would be interesting.

work is going well. The kit is well laid out. It helps if you have room to get parts out of the boxes and on a shelf where you can find them easily. The pictures Zenith posted are helpful at this stage. Each time I go over them I understand something better. I think we are a bit ahead of the manual but Roger has been courteous and helpful when we call. The controls and cockpit area are complicated looking but when we get to it, we will probably find that the rule of "do the holes line up?" will… Continue

On the the next challange

It has been four months to get all built but the fuselege. after our start today it looks like at least four months to do this next stage. The wings and tail feathers seemed simple. The fuselege has so many parts and they are so different from each other!! Well it is just one foot in front of the other and we will ge there.

Dr. Carpenter,
Thank you for letting me come and visit yesterday. You and Tom and doing a great job putting together your 750, I was very impressed. I work in electronics as I mentioned and if I can ever do anything for you let me know. I am looking forward to hearing about your first flight.

Hi Dr. Carpenter,
My name is Scott Sutton and I am located in 90 miles south of you in Cleveland. I purchased plans for a 701 just before the 750 was announced and I am now considering buying the plans for the 750. I would like to come and see your 750 under construction and take a look at it. Would a visit by myself and my boys (10 and 13) and possibly my wife be possible any time?

Thank you,
Scott Sutton

Hi Ben,

Welcome to the builders group. I'm from Knoxville originally and still have a lot of family and friends up there.

There's a 701 builder over in Oliver Springs.

Take care,
