Hey Marcus,

Just about everything I can say about the corvair has been documented on this site, so you've probably already read it.    It was a good fit for my budget, and desire to learn.  I actually put some of those skills to use this past year when I overhauled the Lycoming engine in my RV-6A.    All-in-all, the 601/corvair building and flying experience was very good one and I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

Hi Marcus,

The 650 is a good choice as is the Corvair engine. I like the Corvair because it is simple and reliable. Corvairs are available from several sources. I like the one produced by AzaleaAviation.com I especially like his front bearing setup over the others. Get the 120 hp version. Additional power is never regretted. You will see a lot of hype for the Viking engine and they do perform very well. My only real aversion to those is that they are quite complex.

Hi Marcus,

I started my CH-650 last fall, beginning with my rudder kit. I was building it in my family room (you can see where this is going...). My wife found a small aluminum shaving in her laundry and she told me no more using the family room and that I had to build the garage we've been discussing for years. Flash forward to now and I am almost done with my garage workshop. I expect to be ready to get back to my airplane by mid-August.

Are you going to Oshkosh this year? I'm planning to order the empennage kit at the Zenith booth. If you are, I would enjoy meeting you and learn about your project and experience.

Regards,

Peter

Hey Marcus:

Yes 750 Cruzer. You got to follow your wife's thoughts and feelings on this one. Happy wife happy life. With 750 Cruzer, you cruise at almost 120 miles per hour. You can see below all the time, and it is much easier to climb in and out.  The UL 350is is a great choice, that's what I have on the 650, and will use the same engine or Rotax 912is for the 750 cruzer.

You mentioned you are thinking of corvair engine. As another conversion option for consideration, I do have a viking 110 engine, brand new bought in 2014 for sale (really cheap), not been used at all, and I do not think that am ever gonna use it. I have all the stuff that go with it, prop, mount, etc. The ECU was stolen, I guess from all the traffic in and out of my hanger. Other than that the engine is just sitting here wasting away.

All right man, take care and happy 4th to both of you.

Hi Marcus:

All right, really good to hear from you.  Did you get your kit yet? Let me know if you need support when you start building.  Could not talk you into the Cruzer eh...You mentioned you are looking at corv engine.  Alright, there are lots of options. All in all, really glad you are building.

You can call anytime to chat. two one nine - two six two - eight one eight zero. I have tons of videos flying the 650. Some are on youtube, and I will eventually upload some more.  You and wife coming to Oshkosh?

Hear from you soon.

Care always....

Hi Marcus

Looking forward to meeting you at the open house. My wife and I are attending the rudder workshop and staying over for the weekend. We are located a little South of you and reside on a private strip just north of Nocona.
