Nice airplane Can you tell me the overall height at the tip of the tail including a beacon if you have one?

I am building a 750 and am going to put it on the same floats you have so my new hanger will have to have doors to accomodate it.

Thanks in advance, and Fair Skies...

Hi Bob,

So far, I'm more than pleased with the 701 setup I got. We'll see how this will progress.

Thanks for the good words again. I'll keep posting statuses for all to see.

Now that your 750 is back on wheel, you'll get more airtime! Enjoy... Winter is coming !

Normand

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the good words and encouragement !

The only thing to adjust is the elevator trim and that's it !

Took off at around 50mph and grabbed altitude at 75mph - 500 fpm being conservator... Very nice,  no bad tendencies to drop a wing or anything. Went to 2200 feet for some stalls - there again no surprises - with the elevator full up, the 701 raised its nose and mushed down straight as an arrow. Aileron control remained good although sluggish. Rate of descent was 1000 fpm !!!

Applied nose down and gradual full power and here we went.

Landings were so easy that I thought I had piloted a 701 in a past life !

Looking forward to more flight time in this little bird soon....

Regards,

Very happy builder/pilot

The concern is that I already started to build an aircraft (wood). As it takes times, I tried to chase a used STOL, so i can wait & carry building, quietly.

Hi Bob,

The old radiator was already in front of the plane under the redrive behind the propellor. The new one is just larger ... Thanks for the lip tip, it will be designed in the next fiberglass work.

The new radiator is LIGHTER and the CH750 fork too, so it's good for my total weight and CofG.

I'll keep you posted on the new numbers (coolant temps)

Cheers.

Hi Bob,

The old radiator was already located behind the propellor under the redrive. The new one is larger and that was the challenge... Have to redo the bottom cowl. More fiberglass and paint. At least, it is fitted now. The new fork has tabs used to haul the plane and will be used for the skis (if ever used). Thanks for the explanation for the cold/hot air, I'll look into that.

yes the cam  eg. was an auto conversion that followed  n the footsteps of a lot of conversions.. they failed to do a lot of R@D and changes to really make it an a/c eng, and it was to heavy.  most builders are willing to do some retrofittig and adapting  but are not  willing to spend years at it!! the viking  people have done the retrofitting and R@D and factory support.  They seem to have the attitude to be in business foe the long haul.  in my research I found a couple of videos that showed  the evolution and adaptation of the fit eng .core into a light wieght a/c eng. with dependablity and ease of maint. and operation. so far I am satisfied with it. it really runs almost turbine smooth after starting and above a slow idle. we will see  how it fly`s in the near future at which time I will post on Zenith website.

I chose a Viking a/c eng. I have a honda fit car and the core of a viking is the same with fuel inj. and electronic ign.. it really is responsive and smooth.  only runup and taxi so far.

Hi Bob,

I guess with your new floats and all, the type training on your plane is out of the question...

Any suggestions on how I can proceed ?

Norm

Hi Bob,

Let me know what you find because this really is a concern...

Don't they look HIGH/HUGE on floats ??? Even boarding a CH701 on amphib is

quite a feat... My better half is 5 feet 1 inch and she almost needs a small ladder to climb onboard when on land.

Keep me posted and i'll keep digging to find something useful.

Hi Bob,

So, Have you decided yet on which system you'll use to make sure the wheels are either up or down ??? I got the same problem here and tought of the mirrors on the wings ...

Still pondering...

Hi Bob,

Yep, I would consider myself lucky to get my better half involved in the 701 build.

And again, you're right...Start them small and work their confidence up to ....making a CANOPY COVER...!!!  Honey are you there ???? I think she just ran out !!! ;-)

Norm

Thanks for the comment Bob, I enjoyed your pictures as well. I fly out of Tally Ho, a private airstrip near Alliston, On. I will have a look at the rudder rigging as you pointed out. Not sure about the nose tube however. The airplane was build as a tail drager and never had a nose wheel so there is nothing left over from a previous conversion. Is this what you meant?

Cheers.

Hi Bob,

I think the TinyTach is almost identical to the one I got. Mine has the wire wrapping to a plug cable for engine RPM OR propellor shaft via the sensor. Also has hobbs (which I already had) and maintenance period left alarm. You set the maintenance period and it decrements itself when you fly and let you know when it's time to MAINTAIN your plane...I didn't need any of this stuff but the functions are there. As for the battery, I hated the fact that you dont really know when the digital tach will fail because the battery has gone. That's why we used a regulator and the 12v from the plane.

Nice water rudder by the way !

Keep in touch.

Hi Bob,

I agree for Bob Stuart seats..Suits him just fine I guess...

Remember my "type-training" question, Where do you fly off of ???

Is it an airport where the Cherokee would be able to land and depart from ???

Can you sign me off for type training ???

Time is coming fast...

Norm

Hi Bob, Yes...the models around the 'G' series are simple and fun to fly.  I hope to find same in the Z planes.
