I ordered LED lights with my kit several years back, but I believe those are just the nav lights/strobe. But since LED technology has advanced so much recently, I'll probably end up with something newer. As for landing lights, I'm planning on not installing the slats, so I'll probably get something to go in the leading edge. A light on the nose gear strut would essentially be limited to being a taxi light, though that's not necessarily a bad idea. Our new house and hangar construction should…

A light on the nose gear strut would essentially be limited to being a taxi light, though that's not necessarily a bad idea. Our new house and hangar construction should be finished in the next few months, and I hope to have everything settled in the hangar not long after that, so it probably won't be very long before I start researching exactly which LEDs I get and where I install them.
With LEDs being inexpensive,…tag:zenith.aero,2020-01-26:2606393:Comment:7076692020-01-26T03:32:39.621ZMark Gravatthttps://zenith.aero/profile/MarkGravatt

With LEDs being inexpensive, light weight and low draw, I want to be the reason for the next Phoenix UFO sighting!

On the strut... which strut?

Check the nose gear strut. I think that is where it is. I like that it is steerable lighting.

Probably a lot easier than in the slats. There's already another forum thread going about these lights.

Looks like Zenith may have been working on recessed landing lights in the slats when I sent out this post. They look great too. I wonder how difficult it would be to recess those lights into the wing itself if I decide to go without slats and just use VGs?
I put my landing/taxi lights on the strut. See pic. I made a split bracket from 1/2" aluminum.

I've seen some aircraft with LED landing/taxi lights attached to the struts. That would probably be what I'd do.

Check my Can-Zac Spycam photo album pictures. During construction, prior to painting I riveted and pre-drilled an heavy extruded "L" with A5 rivets to the spar attachment bracket for installing landing light on both wings. The lights are a high end HELLA driving lamps for automobiles. Very simple to install anf you can run the light wiring down the hollow strut and bring them into the fuselage with the brake lines.
