Hi Don,

I used an aluminum 'L' on its back which I formed to the contour of the glare shield. Then, I used foam to stuff the top part and make it smooth. Finally I used leather sewn over it. To attch it to the top of the panel, I used metal screws thru the glare shiel screwed in the aluminum 'L'. You can see the end result in my pictures (Instruments 001 + 002) .

Enjoy !

I have heard people using automotive door trim. However I wanted to keep my glare shield straight and not get the wobble that i see in some panels. So i took Aluminum fuel line 1/2 id I think it was. I cut it lengthwise and opened with a flat bar. Dry fit it to the curve and then painted. Installed it, looks great and provided a blunt edge instead of the head cutter edge and my glare shield is now rigid and keeps that straight edge.

Don,

Someone suggested a trim item available from JC Whitney, a supply house out of Chicago. I ordered up a package of the trim in black. It is the trim with a steel spring clip liner - kinda a vinyl pebble grained product. I slipped it over the dash end that was exposed - I have abourt 20mm over hang and it works and looks great. If I had it to do over, and I will fix it some time in the fuuture, I would put a doubler of AL under the overhang for support. I also used the trim to…

If I had it to do over, and I will fix it some time in the fuuture, I would put a doubler of AL under the overhang for support. I also used the trim to put around the bitter edge of the wing root pieces to protect the cabin top plexiglass. Additionally, I used it to trim out the vertical fin to horizontal stab junction. I was originally worried about weathering but I hung a piece out in the Idaho sun and winter for over a year with no defgradation.
