EAA - July 16, 2014 - If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at homebuilding, you won’t want to miss the One Week Wonder project at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014, where volunteers will transform a standard Zenith CH 750 Cruzer kit into a flyable aircraft in seven days! This activity will take place at the EAA Square at the intersection of Celebration Way and Knapp Street, right in the center of the convention.

While the goal of the One Week Wonder is to build a flyable aircraft in seven days, we also want to demonstrate that homebuilding is something anyone can do. To help drive that message home, all AirVenture visitors are invited to come to the project site and pull a rivet–literally have a hand in helping build the airplane.

The first 5,000 people who pull a rivet will receive a One Week Wonder commemorative pin, a digital photo as a keepsake of their experience, and the opportunity to sign their name in “The World’s Largest Builders Log.”

Those who visit the One Week Wonder exhibit tent will also be able to cast their votes to select the winning paint scheme for the completed Zenith CH 750 Cruzer.

This entire effort would not be possible without generous support from the following companies:

Zenith Aircraft

BRP Rotax

Dynon Avionics

Aircraft Spruce & Specialty

Skytek Aircraft Services

SteinAir

Sensenich Propeller
Poly-Fiber

Sennheiser Aviation

MATCO mfg

Flightline Interiors
Scheme Designers

AeroLEDs

Cummins Spinners
Ray Allen Company

Preview article about the One Week Wonder project in the May 2014 issue of EAA Sport Aviation Magazine:

At the Zenith Builders Banquet (as part of the annual 2013 Open Hangar Day activities), EAA's Charlie Becker (Director of Communities & Homebuilt Community Manager) spoke about the return of the One Week Wonder! project to AirVenture (Oshkosh) 2014.  This is the full poster:

Here's the hand-written message from Jack Pelton, EAA's chairman (and former CEO of Cessna):

We too are excited about this project!

The project is titled the "Return of..." because my father (Chris) already successfully completed an entire aircraft (from a kit) at Oshkosh in eight days way back in 1976. (While I was at Oshkosh that year I personally wasn't much help with the project because I was just eight years old at the time!)

Here's the article from archives of EAA Sport Aviation magazine:

We'll be sharing more information about this ambitious project for AirVenture 2014, and as the poster states, we encourage you to BE A PART OF IT!

The building of an airplane in one week at Oshkosh and Sun 'N Fun was one of the things that pushed me in the direction of Zenith. If relatively unskilled people can do this (with guidance, of course) in a week, then there's some hope for the rest of us!
