I saw an article on AOPA that said Rotax was starting production of the 912iS model which is fuel injected.  I looked around on the web for additional information but found nothing.  Anyone got any information as far as specifications and pricing?

UL Power - Q & A

I started another discussion on Zenith.Aero for UL Power questions and at Seb's request I started a comparison of the 912iS.  If anybody has any definite info on the 912iS please post it at:

Here is some pricing information that I received from a reliable source re the 912iS but it is confusing.  "Suggested retail is $24,917.70 plus you need new "engine monitoring" equipment at $3,893.50."

I'm not sure what this means.  Does anybody know?  Does that mean the total is almost $29,000?

The UL260iS at 107HP is only $18,600 for a complete running engine.  Or you can go as high as 130HP for $23,100.

To address one comment I saw on here... we recently opened up a 260i that had 900 hours flying time and everything was within tolerance and there was no indication of anything other than normal wear and tear.

I will create a UL Power Blog for ease of discussion and info sharing.

Re weight... from an OEM source we heard the 912iS at 100HP weighs more than the UL350iS at 130HP.  It's difficult to confirm the Rotax numbers re weight and fuel consumption so if anybody knows for sure please share them on here or email them to me and I'll post a comparison.

I have been following the UL power engines for a few years and untill more are flying and we see what kind of reliability they demonstrate I will have to pass.  The UL power engines do look really nice though.  Actually I already have an O-200 that is a relatively low time factory rebuild that I will most likely use with some 8.5:1 compression pistons and P-mags.  A electronic fuel injected engine would be nice though!

Mike,

Take a serious look at the ULPower 350is. It's cheaper in price than a std Rotax 912, it has FADEC, fuel injection, fault tolerant ECU and 130HP. Quite a nice engine.

Hard to beat. The Rotax 912 is a great engine no doubt but the price is a way too high with a 4000$ increase on an already too expensive engine for most builders. As for TBO ..that always depends on how you maintain your engine as well. Compare overhaul prices as well and it make quite a difference.

If it really works out to be $4000 more, I bet they wont sell many. The 912 is already overpriced and put the cost of most factory light sport aircraft out of reach for most of us. besides you can buy alot of fuel and do a lot of carb synchs for $4000. What a shame, I was actually thinking of trying to work the numbers and get one of these fuel injected models.

Mike,

The announcement article on the EAA web site said that the unofficial estimate of the price increase is $4000.

Thanks Andre, I found where Rotax Bob also posted some pictures. I should have known he would be all over it!
