Pilot Operating Handbook for 601HDS, could be modified easily enough for XL

Hi Everyone,  Here is a reasonably comprehensive POH for 601's.  Many thanks to Thilo Kind for generating the original.  I've added to and refined what he originally sent to me but much of his content remains.  There are charts added for load factors, cruise performance, fuel calibration, etc. that might be of interest to some.  If the group likes the format and information provided, it could be converted to reflect the XL model without too much difficulty.

Zodie Rocket performs low pass at high mach number

Hi everyone,

Thought you might enjoy this picture of a high speed pass at one of the local flyins.  This was after a recent changeover to retract gear, supercharging, and a few other speed enhancing secrets.  I guess I just didn't realize what the Zodie Rocket is capable of with its tapered HDS wing and slippery aerodynamics.  Fortunate for me, I'd read Chuck Yeagers book and instinctively knew to use the trim tabs after the main controls began to loose…

Weekend adventure to Traverse City, MI

Thought you might be interested in hearing about our great cross country adventure to Traverse City, MI this Fall.  We planned an 8 hour drive up to meet our family on Friday, then return home on Monday.  As the weekend drew closer, it became apparent that the weather was going to be severely clear throughout the whole weekend.  On top of that the wind was solidly out of the South.  This begged the question:  To fly or not to fly?  I spent the better part of about 2 seconds…

Low Cost Steering Boot solution for Zenith 601

I've been looking for rubber boots to use on the Zenith 601 steering arms. It has been difficult to find an off-the-shelf product due to the narrow profile. I finally found something that is a near perfect fit on my HDS. It can be purchased from JB-Custom Fabrication on E-bay. This particular boot is used on certain Jeep models for the twin shifters. It costs around $22.00 plus shipping. Good news is you only need to buy one and carefully cut it in half. The following steps describe…

Formation Flying in the Zodie Rocket

My friend Mike Mossman and I have been flying our Zodie Rockets for about 6 years now.  His plane is equipped with the Rotax 912S, mine with the Jabiru 3300.  Both are fitted with HDS wings.  The Zodies are a hoot to fly.

We have flown together to many flyin's over the years and it is one of life's great experiences.  The 601's are light and responsive which makes for…
