Rotax 912 Honeywell Oil Pressure Sender

My CH750 is powered by the Rotax 912S engine. To date I have 90 trouble free hours on the engine with no adjustments required other than tightening a radiator hose clamp. While flying the other day the engine oil pressure started to fluctuate and go full scale both directions on the D180. This really gets your attention! I selected a field for a forced landing, but after flying the approach with Rotax humming along happily (all oil temps & cylinder temps normal) I reasoned I was risking…

Today we managed to finish the installation of the new Positech Oil cooler and the new manifold pressure guage as well as re fit the cowl. engine has been tested and no leaks were found. Washed down the engine and fuselage with mineral spirits to remove any residual oil from the previous leak.

During the ground run the manifold pressure guage indicated 12" @ 1000 RPMS and 15" @ 1600 RPMS it will be interesting to see what the indications are at the next takeoff. Aircraft has a fixed…

Suggestions for New Workshops to be held?

As most of you know, American Light Sport Aircrafters have been holding a Tail Section Workshop which runs in conjunction with the Zenith Rudder Worksop each month here at our facility in Mexico, MO.

Each month I am asked if we have considered doing others so it became clear that there are literally hundreds of subjects concerning kit building that could be covered in…

TRANSITION TIME

I have finished my 701 and am getting ready for the DAR. I am now hoping to find someone that is flying a 701 that is willing to do some transition work with me. I have been flying since the early 60's, got my private in J-3s, owned a Yankee American for about 10 years, since then I have been flying Cessna's ususally the 150-152s but in the past was checked out in 172s.

My 701 has a Rotax 912s, Dynon 180, X-Com, Becker TP, and is backed up with a VSI, ALT, SI, TACH which are…

Turbine Zenith 701 flew over 1200 miles

The Turbine Zenith 701 (742DE) flew over 1200 miles at 300’ over Lake Livingston last week in an attempt to locate a lost fisherman. We unfortunately did not save a life this time but I was sure impressed with the utility of the 701 to perform this type of search. It was gratifying to be able to help and I would recommend that all of you that have 701/750 consider letting local law enforcement know if you have time to volunteer.

Zeniths in Action in Ghana

A documentary is underway about what we do in West Africa, much of it with Zenith aircraft... Many people ask to see a video of what we do, but our internet is 'inter-mittent-net'....

Happily, here is a link to the preview to the documentary.... http://vimeo.com/21946586 , donated by Rex and Melissa Pemberton, watch out especially for the Zenith across the setting sun and rising sun pictures.... we had a great time shooting this, but…

Sun n Fun Day 2 April 1,2011

We arrived early with trailers and tools only to find all the damaged aircraft had been removed from the booth.  Finally found them and began the recovery process.  We disassembled the CH750 and moved it to FlightCrafters in Zephyrhills, FL.  From there we will do a more extensive survey of the damage.  Sebastien, Roger, and Caleb are working up a plane to repair and replace.  I am sure they will be back in the air ASAP.

Sun n Fun (not wanting to miss any revenue) opened at…

Sun n Fun damage

It will go down as one heck of a show!  Rain Monday. Rain Wednesday.  And Rain and tornado on Thursday.  Everyone on the stand saw the bad weather coming and ran for cover.  When we came back the tent was gone and airplanes were destroyed.  Bob McDowel's Lil Beaver survived without a scratch but the CH701 parked behind it was destroyed. Bob was seen buying a lottery ticket ( it must be his day of luck).  The new CH650 demonstrator also survived without a scratch.  Flightcrafters quick build…

From Afghanistan to Zenith's Rudder Build Weekend

Although I am still in Afghanistan, I ordered my rudder kit and reserved my rudder workshop space for the June session. A few months ago I order the rudder DVD from HomeBuiltHelp.com and have watched it numerous times at my base when I was off duty.  I am eager to return to the United States, meet other Zenith owners, build my rudder at Zenith in June, spend a few more days at American Light Sport Aircrafters down the road from Zenith (maybe building the stabilizer or anything else), then…

Flats

Went to hangar yesterday and was greeted with two flat tires on my 701. Nose wheel and right front main. Right front main had a tube put in about 2 months ago and nose wheel has been fine for over a year now. anybody out there having issues with the Matco combos. Left main and nose wheel are still tubeless. 20 hours in and these are the only issues.
