Leading Edge Skin for Left Wing Drilled

I finally managed to get the leadig edge skin drilled for my Zenith 650. I would say this is the most difficult challenge I have faced in this project so far.

I think the biggest feature of what was done was to figure out a way to hold the ribs steady so I can take measurements to transfer from the ribs to skin and also make sure the ribs do not move when trying to fit the skin and for drilling as well.  Some of this can be seen in the thumbnail for the video below.  The jig will…

Bob Is Back Flying

After a "heart incident" Dec. 2019 I received two stents and in Feb. 2020 my Aortic valve was replaced (to correct a birth defect) at the Ottawa Heart Institute. My Private Pilot Medical was suspended. I resigned myself to not being able to fly again. Feb. 2021 I felt so good I that I passed my pilot medical which Transport Canada placed "Under Review" because of the replacement surgery. Yesterday I received my medical "Unrestricted Class 3" from Transport Canada. It was a long tedious trip…

Bungee "Installation Tool"

To change the front bungee CH601HD, CH701, CH750 or and Zenith with bungee cord front suspension. Simply hook bungee around the rear mount tube, slide up the nose strut, then slide loose end of bungee over the end of a 1/2 inch drive ratchet handle which has the 1/2 inch drive inserted in the open end of the front bungee mount tube. Lifting up on the ratchet handle will stretch the bungee easy. Once over center the bungee slides down the ratchet handle onto the front bungee mount tube. KISS…

Travis's nifty installation tool for nose gear bungee cord

Just replaced the nose gear bungee cord of my 601HDS. This used to be a tough process that I handled with ad hoc arrangements. But this time I had Travis's bungee cord installation tool available. It was a cinch to pull up the bungee cord and have it snap in place. What a clever design! Proves once more that factory support is super.

27 years flying 601HDS

Joined today when I became aware of the site. Two comments:

1. Today Roger of the Zenith Company proved once more how terrific their service really is. He helped out with a significant problem, and the solution parts will arrive here tomorrow. Five star service.

2. Since 2005 we have maintained a blog about the 601HDS and, in particular, its Rotax 912 UL engine. If you also use a Rotax engine, you may want to look at posts covering various problems and solutions at…

Selling planes

My father law has passed recently and has
Left experimental planes behind. We are having issues on selling them as we don’t know where to start. I think he was almost finished with them but who know. Does anyone know where I need to start? I figured they probably should be inspected? I live in Jacksonville FL does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

A completed and flying airplane.

Inspection was completed on September 23rd and first flight on the 24th.  Currently trying to get as much flight time in the remaining fall flight weather.  Many thanks to all on this forum who have posted their experiences, lessons learned, and especially photos.  Without these resources I would only be half done by now.  I hope to share more of my experiences when the weather gets worse.  I am hoping I can help others they way this community has helped my build.

Bob's Cherokee 1972 PA28-140

I'm not ready to give up flying.... and I found an aircraft abandoned 16+ years in a hangar. In February with the snow waist deep the new owners of the hangar were considering calling the salvage yard to dispose of "The Cherokee". The new owners of the hangar had a Aeronca Chief and Luscombe and no need of the Cherokee. I agreed to buy the Cherokee and hire the AME Chief owner to completely go through the aircraft and recertify it. A new zero time engine and prop after all the spar…

Questions about STOL 701's

TWO questions:

1. If I build a 701 with the folding wing option, is there any builder option that I should / must fore go ?  Like wing gas tanks?   Any advice about the folding wing option ?  Thumbs up or thumbs down ?

2. Most photos I have seen of STOL 701's show standard two blade props.  Anybody have any experience with a three blade props?
