Do folks even fly STOLs after hours as I don’t recall seeing them on the Zenith website on any of the CH-801 photos. With the fixed leading edge wing slat on the Zenith STOLs, it would be very difficult to install wing recessed landing light within the slat and if you managed it, how would it disrupted airflow during climbs or landings when the fixed leading edge wing slats come into play. I’m not sure if there is room for a small LED type landing light in the wing tip areas fixed foward on these planes or if the jarring from landings would have some adverse affect on the landing lights if it were placed on the front landing gear just above the wheel (I'm thinking this may be the best option, unless I hear of problems)? Could they be recessed in the cowling or hang from the struts? If anyone have any thoughts on this subject and have plans to install landing lights or have done so already on one of these STOLS, that doesn’t screw up the STOL characteristics or create a lot of drag, I love to hear what you have to say on this subject.

I have been reading various articles about how VGs help in the flying characteristics and landings of various aircraft and I plan on using them on the elevator of the CH-750 as Zenith suggests. But I have a question for any aeronautical engineers out there regarding VGs and if they would have any affect or be of any aid should they be applied to the plane’s rudder and if they were applied, would they be placed along the leading edge or someplace else? I’m just curious to find out if they might…

I’m just curious to find out if they might aid a plane in cross wind conditions, streamlining, in turns or if they might serve in some other beneficial or hampering way if they were applied there.\
JayI just took a big turn around in my desired engine for my CH-750, switching from Rotec R-2800 to the Jabiru 3300.tag:zenith.aero,2010-01-27:2606393:BlogPost:459572010-01-27T19:02:54.000ZJay Parkerhttps://zenith.aero/profile/JayParker
Today I took another look at the Jabiru 3300, 120 hp engine and really liked what I saw. I was comparing it to the stylish radial engine, the Rotec R-2800. I like the fact that it is only $17,500 new and sold in a town not far from where I live now here in Tennessee. It includes all the accessories including mounting for that price. They also sell the front cowling/nose bowls for the engine (they show an engine mounting process for a on a 701 or 750 on their website:…

Their support seems to be great for novice builders like myself, even giving classes on the engine and installation. I like the fact that it is air cooled, no radiator that carries more coolant weight, and its weight is just 180 lbs. (81 kg.) and incl. Exhaust, Carburetor, Starter Motor, Alternator & Ignition System & Accessory pack. It packs an extra 10 horsepower, lighter, cheaper and doesn’t require special cowl modifications over the Rotec 2800. It would give me better streamlining, as you don’t have to build a special cowl for the engine like the Rotec R-2600 and cost about $5,000 less. It will be easier to find a qualified mechanic to do general maintenance on it and would probably be easier to get TBO for. The only problem I have is the carburetor issue as I believe in fuel injection for reliability, but I believe I can get fuel injection for the Jabiru from Rotec which makes the TBI-40-S fuel injector for only an additional $765.00. For me this device would be worth it in fuel economy savings and dependability. It’s a direct drive engine so it doesn’t need any special gearing down which would save me the extra weight of a PSRU. After I just wrote all its pluses down here, I think the pendulum just swung over to Jabiru from Rotec. I must have a thing for Australian engines.
