I started Plane Newb as a life goal and challenge to do something I’ve dreamed about for years. Instead of  sitting on the sidelines with a host of excuses, as I have for years,  I decided to put a plan into action and to start a journey to Learn, Fly, & Build…starting from absolute scratch. Oh yeah, and I plan to record the whole process and broadcast it to the world.

Plane Newb is meant to reflect a full journey into aviation, based on my respect, and admiration for aviation and particularly the experimental world. I want to prove to myself, and inspire others that someone can start from scratch…no certificates, ratings, qualifications, training, institution knowledge, familial background, etc. But what I do have is drive, determination, and call it a primal yearning to create, to learn, and to build. What an incredible accomplishment, story, legacy.

The aviation world, and the experimental world in particular is utterly intimidating to many outsiders, including myself and I want to tackle that challenge and overcome the overwhelming sensation that accompanies an inadequacy one feels trying to enter this world. I also want to be a part of the tribe, meet other builders, fly with other pilots, embrace the camaraderie, and engage in a new lifestyle. Most importantly, I  wanted to show that if  I (the untechnical, unskilled, unaware newb) can do this, than anyone…truly anyone can!

I will chronicle this journey with video blogs, interviews, webinars, meetups, a retreat and more. All with the aim to Create, Entertain, Highlight, and Inspire.  Come along on this journey, whether you are a seasoned aviation vet, or a neophyte like me, I think there is some real value in  showing people the aviation and experimental world in a fresh way right from the start…literally!
