Aircraft Registration

I bought another airplane last month, and promptly lost the Notarized Bill of Sale and Registration Application.Does anyone know how best to get the airplane registered under these circumstances? The seller does not want to provide duplicate paperwork. The FSDO doesn't return calls or emails. The number I found for the OKC FAA doesn't have an option pertaining to this. EAA says to get the seller to create a duplicate with an original signature in ink on two copies and mail it in with five bucks…See More

Fuelish question?

For those engines that require auto gas from the local off-airport "service" station, here in California the spectre of ethanol rears its ugly head. The Internet runneth over with conflicting advice. For example, here's an infomercial (despite protestations to the contrary) for the VP Power line of products. Is there a fuel/engine expert in the house that can provide the last word on how to and how not to fuel a Rotax?See More

Fuel for Rotax 100 hp engines

Perhaps this has been asked and answered, so if someone will link me to the right discussion, I'll appreciate it.However, if any progress has been made, or if there is any new folklore or fact, please advise.I have been told that it's ok to fuel with 91 octane auto fuel containing ethanol or with 100LL. I also have been told that there are only three places in the entire state of California where 91 octane auto fuel without ethanol can be purchased, and that it costs in the neighborhood of…See More

Free 750 Stick time

I'm at (KSEE). Any pilots want free stick time? I'm not grounded, but I'm having trouble with each of my legs that keeps me from moving the airplane around without doing more damage, at least for a few weeks or months. Even after I heal, I'll be willing to share.Best,WayneSee More

Parachutes and drogue chutes

The moderator asked me to start this as a result of commenting on the subject under another topic.I'm far from an expert, but I had suggested that there might be some downsides to drogues, such as fire. For example, if this plane had been higher and the fire had ignited before it hit the ground, I presume the outcome might have been different https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8SYYz1myaI . I suggested that in some cases having individual…See More

Battery battery

My Odyssey battery is weak at 60 hours on the Hobbs, but it's about 2 1/2 years old. It's always been on the battery minder.Anybody else have this problem? If I have to replace it, I'm thinking of getting a LiFePo, but am re-spooked by all the fire publicity. Does any manufacturer guarantee their product won't burn in aircraft use? What would constitute misuse?WTSee More

Tire-pressure sweet spot?

This is primarily for 701-750 folk, but anyone can comment.I'm trying to work out the tire pressure that will give me maximum soft-field flotation and rough-field cushioning without incurring too much rolling resistance on harder surfaces without damaging the tires or rolling them off the rims. Maybe this is just theoretical on my part, so feel free to straighten me out . . .Thanks for all y'all's input.WTSee More

Here's a post from another site for your info. Has anyone contemplated installing or actually installed breakaway valves at critical places (e.g. wing root, firewall)? N750MV was built by the late Marv Vanderpool. It was to be the latest in a string of prize-winners built by Marv, the previous one being a Lancair. I bought it because his widow wanted to sell it and for the exceptional craftsmanship. I was also impressed by the fuel-injected, brand-new Continental/Mattituck IO-240 (125hp) engine and the steam-gauge panel (I'm old-fashioned and like to keep my head out of the cockpit as much as possible).

While I am not a builder, I'm eager to learn, and do as much of the work as I can, supervised by an A&P.

I started flying in 1962, but gave it up in the early '90's. I started shopping for some kind of light-sport airplane with back-country capabilities in 2012, and fly according to light-sport rules.

I grew up a country-boy, and feel most comfortable there even though I live in a city. My wife and I travel as much as her schedule allows. We own two 4-wheel-drive vehicles, a Ford F-250HD with air-bag and Bilstein suspension with an Outfitter pop-up camper, and a custom built (Callen/Chappelle) Mitsubishi Fuso 4WD dual-wheel "expedition vehicle." We plan to sell the Outfitter and the Ford soon. (9/25/15)

Hello Wayne,

The information above on hours flown per day was compiled by Bob.  He is stating the number of hours flown, not that they are non-stop.

That said, my 601 has the two-15-gallon-tanks option. I fly at best-economy, which is about 95 mph.  At that speed I am burning about 3.5 to 4 GPH which provides almost 7 hours duration with a modest reserve.  The trip did have some very long legs, by design.  One need to have those long legs if you fly a different route.

You can see the accrual route we took by following the links to the larger picture collection (see the top of the blog post for the links).  In the picture collection are screen shots of the route flown overall and each day.

Keep in mind we intended to fly off the beaten path into wilderness areas.  Each plane had a DeLorme inReach two-way satellite tracking device so our location was known to family and friends to the nearest 10 minutes.

Without the tracking device if a plane were to go down in some of the places we flew, it would likely never be found because we were not on accepted/expected routes.

Steve

I live on a small ranch in eastern Montana ,near North Dakota . I have a wife and 4 kids. I am an A&P and CFI. I don't own this CH750 it belongs to another rancher. I finished it for him and he wants me to test fly it and then give him some dual in it. Problem is his insurance company won't let me fly it without some time in type.
