Looking for Zenair Flyers in New York and New Jersey

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 3:26pm 0 Comments

Hi fellow Zenair Pilots

I just moved to the New York City and I am looking for fellow ZENAIR pilots and builders in the area.

Planning to have my 701 shipped from Europe back to the U.S. and I am looking for an all-year tie down spot around NYC City or in New Jersey - grass strip would also be fine.

Any tips welcome - thanks for your inputs and hope to see you soon up in the air.

Hi Urs

Sounds like you are doing a lot of moving.  As I recall that involves a lot of work.

I did a search on autopilot for 701 and found you asked about it awhile back.  I live in Oregon and have a flying 701 with Skyview.  I am considering hooking up the servos.  How did that for you and where did you put them.

Hi Urs

Putting it in a container is one thing. How about the import in the US and permits to fly it?

Hi David, the plane is Urs video belongs to my brother. When purchased it was mine and my brothers. But I had him buy me out so I could buy my 701.

The engine is an O-200 with light weight everything. Our battery is in the tail as is our ELT. So the ballance is spot on. The performance is as good if not better than the two other 701s I have flown which both have Rotex 912 uls.

The fuel system is graverty fed. No manual or elecric fuel pump.

If you are planning on running an engine less than 100 hp in your 701, then don't expect your aircraft to performe like the numbers listed from the Zenith web site. You will need a 1,000 runway with anything less than 100hp. I am taking off over gross weight on a 800 foot strip with power lines at both ends and the Continental O-200 performs very well there. Even on 102 degree days. We are at 120 foot elevation.

I have been able to take off in this aircraft with just myself and about a 15kts wind in less than 50 feet.

Hi Urs, nice video, what Continental engine are you running on the plane in the video? How does it perform? Fuel system question, is there a manual or eletric fuel pump installed on the plane? I'm building my CH701 with a Continental C85-12.

Thanks David L. Orr
