Monoleaf main spring corrosion

After 4 years of operation in salt water the major problem that I encountered was corrosion of the Monoleaf main spring.I attribute this to the electrolysis phenomenon and due to the fact that the monoleaf main spring is of different aluminum alloy than the rest of the aiplane.Other than that the airplane is corrosion free. I welcome any suggestions for avoiding this in the future.

Hi, congratulations on doing an 801 amphibian, I have both the 701 and 801 as amphibs on czech floats. The 801 is in the Bahamas except during hurricane season, the 701 in St. Petersburg, FL.

The 801 amphib needs every bit of extra hp you can add, spec the engine to the max. I started with a fuel injected superior (lycoming clone) xp360 with 7:1 compression with automotive gas acceptable but found that water takeoff, climb rate and ceiling were unacceptable. I added a turbocharger with manual waste gate that brings peak hp up and now takeoff from salt water is around 15 seconds.

Takeoff is 34 knots with full flaps, cruise is around 65 kts, max is around 75 kts. I descend at 55 kts and touchdown at about 40 with close to full flaps. Fuel consumption is 11-12 gph.

The floats you propose look like an excellent choice. Mine are czech 1900's but after a year of use I have added epoxy and foam flotation on the bottoms to bring them up to 2200 or more. Much better feeling floating higher in the water. Current weight is probably similar to clamar.

For pictures of my 801 go to: http://picasaweb.google.com/jeff.fortune/N63VKAZenithCH801AmphibiousAirplane?feat=directlink

If you want to see the 701, which is set up just like yours, you can navigate to these by clicking on "jeff's albums to the left of the 801 title.

That's a start, please send specific questions.

Hello again,Kostas!
Do you recommend the "Vortex Generators" for the 701?

Hello,Kostas!
I built my floats from plans. They are not quite finished yet.Are you using a "Soft Start Module" on your engine to retard the timing?I have the same engine but have not started it yet.The "Soft StartModule" is supposed to reduce "Kickback" on start up.

Hello,Kostas!
Thank you for getting back to me.I also spoke to Bob Jones and he said his angle of:Incidense" is set at 3/1 2 degrees.Could it be that you have a different engine than the 912S

Hello,Kostas!
What is that angle in degrees between your wing and the top of the floats?

File,

You are very close to where a lot of my family lives. We are originally from Poro and Galata, but I have family in Megara and Vlihada. I also have family on Salamina in Psili Ammo and Agios Giorgis between Xeno and Steno. I have been to the Perama many times to take the ferry boat over to Megara. It is a small world!

I am building a 601XL powered by a Corvair motor that I built. I am about 75% finished. Feel free to take a look at my pictures and video. There are not many pictures, but I'll be adding more soon. I hope to be done this year around fall.

Good luck

Ken

Yassou Kosta. Thanks for posting pictures of your plane with beautiful Greece in the background. It is nice to see our country since I haven't visited in a long time.
