Cowl Hinge Pin - where to buy?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Patrick Hoyt May 28. 9 Replies

Hey all, my Viking 130. Cowl is installed on my 650 now :-) Jan says the best option now is to replace the hinge pins with smaller diameter ones (about .015 smaller). I've been looking but can't find…Continue

For those of you that have the heater from Viking - did you install or are you planning on installing a control valve? I don't really like the idea of the hot radiator in the cabin all the time so I…Continue

Instrument Panel - stock from kit or additional metal plate screwed/riveted to stock?

Hello all, I'm getting ready to install my instruments in my panel.  I'm using a GRT 8.4" efis and the small GRT mini.  I also have about 20 toggle switches.  After I cut the rectangular holes for the efis/backkup and EIS I started wondering if the whole thing will be stiff enough once I install it in the plane.  So the question is do I need a backer plate behind the panel or a good plate for the real face of the panel that will just be screwed or riveted to the stock panel? This will be one…See More

Viking Heater control valve?

For those of you that have the heater from Viking - did you install or are you planning on installing a control valve? I don't really like the idea of the hot radiator in the cabin all the time so I was thinking of just splicing in a manual control valve - push pull knob like most planes - as well as using the heater fans. If you've researched it what did you buy and did then Viking supplied hoses fit the stock control valve.I'm thinking of something like this…See More

Flywheel Drive Plate Replacement

For those of you that haven't replaced your flywheel drive plate here's one tip from my experience this weekend.  Jan's video is good and he mentions a couple things that are worth repeating.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnceZlehqy01. The six 12point bolts are on TIGHT.2. Use a long bar to extend your socket wrench3. GRIND your 17mm socket quite a bit. Grind the face of it all the way down until you can…See More

Direction of Engine Mount Bolts?

Hello all, Does it matter if the bolts that attach the engine mount to the fuselage go from inside the fuselage out or  from the engine mount through the firewall into the plane? I have the Viking 130 mount on a 650. I attached the mount temporarily today to help move from the basement to the garage,  The Viking mount needs about a 2 1/2 inch bolt.  With the 10 degree angle on the front of the fuselage mount brackets I don't see how I'd be able to get a long bolt to go from inside out.  The…See More

What's wrong with me and my nut plates/screws???

So we all have a bunch of nut plates and screws as provided by Zenith right?  I have most of mine installed and the screws are hand tightened  - only a few turns until tight right?  So I decide to tighten up an access panel and it's a SERIOUS effort to get any of the screws in tight.  I figure maybe once they are in tight then I can undo them and they will then be smooth going in and out for access panel access right? Well, no such luck.  I can barely get them unscrewed and it's still way too…See More

Viking mini header tank/new header tanks - Vent line

Hey all, Has anybody (Glenn Davis) studied the plans for the new Viking header tanks? I've seen some discussion with Jan about the plans for the plumbing but now I need a couple specifics because I want to add hoses before I close my wing. I have a 130 and fwf kit ordered but not delivered. - Jan says you need a vent line from the header tank tank to at least one of the fuel tanks. - fine, Zenith has put a nice port at the top rear side of the tank for return fuel for fuel injected engines. - I…See More

Steel beams for building

Posted on February 23, 2017 at 11:58am 10 Comments

Hello all,

I'm getting ready to build my 650 wings and thought maybe I'd get some steel beams as shown in the guides.

Are you all using them? Where did you get them?

If you aren't using them, what are you using?

I just used 2x4's for the rudder, stab and elevator.

Thanks!
