Bleeding the coolant system...

Posted on April 23, 2011 at 9:36pm 4 Comments

I changed out some hoses on the ship (912 UL) and now I've got it back together... but I can't find any secrets to bleeding the coolant system other than just running it hard, then cooling it for it to suck up the  recovery tank and then do it all over again...

any secrets to bleeding the coolant on a 912 UL??

Hey Gary,

Would you post some pictures of your 912UL engine install?  I'm interested in how your radiator and oil cooler are done.  I don't see the bottom mounted radiator or any extra holes in the cowling.

Thanks,

Mark Napier

I could not tell from the angle of the pictures if your CH601 was a HD or HDS? My CH601HD has the Rotax 912A 80 hp... 1400+ trouble free hours. Try to deal with Bob Robertson of Light engine Services on the rotax parts. Zenith sells aircraft...Bob sell Rotax engines & parts...more knowledgable on the parts.

Gary's CH601HD/HDS does not require any wing upgrade. The wing spar is 11 inches thick...totally different wing design. If he does not have the Rotax 912S he does not need the Bully Hawk soft start...if it is a 100 hp its a good investment. The stainless exhaust kit will solve your exhaust problems once and for all. Only TIG weld stainless exhausts or they crack.

Gary;

    That is one expensive problem if you use Rotax parts.  Look at this link

for upgrades to the exhaust to eliminate vibration caused failure in the future.

Also look into the Rotax "soft start" module.  It retards timing on start up and shut down to eliminate the death rattle.

  Did  you need to do the mandatory wing upgrade after you bought it or was that painful process done by the previous owner?  If you painted it what paint color and brand of paint is on your 601?  I really like it.
