My 601 has now flown twice with the corvair.  The first time it flew, it did not climb very well at all.   I have the warp drive prop that I bought through WW.  It was set at 8.5 degrees, as recommended.  Static RPM was at 2900.  Once in the air you had to basically maintain full power to keep it from loosing altitude.  The manual said that a flatter pitch would get you in the air but it would not be a comfortable trip around the patch.  That is what it was like.  I changed the pitch on the…See More

Dave - for the tachometer sender, I used a Contrex.  Do a search for that at the corvair email archive and you'll get tons of info.  I had to "lie" to my tachometer by telling it that I had a different number of teeth on the ring gear counter than is actually there.  I think the technical term is "calibration".  Here's the link:  http://www.maddyhome.com/corvairsrch/index.jsp

Hi Dave, would be great to meet another Zodiac/Covair builder! My email address is dgardea@gmail.com .. send me a note when your travel plans in March firm up and we can make arrangements to meet at Shelbyville (KGEZ) airport. I built the baffle box pretty much from looking at the pics on WW's site. Let me know if you would like my dimensions. Regards/ Dave

Thanks Dave. I think I've read enough online as to how to do it, I was just looking for some first line tips...
Plane looks good! Should be fun. The corvair makes a good motor in that airframe!

Did you build the nose bowl? If so, any pics of the process?

Dave,
awesome pictures!
I'm glad to see another Corvair going together!
Keep up the good work!
Have you started your upgrades yet?
I'm just now starting to get into that on a friends plane.
Happy New Year!
