Phase one complete!!

My Zodiac 601 XL-B has moved past phase one flight testing and handles beautifully! The visibility and flight characteristics are better than I imagined and  I have just flown from the test area back to my own (rented) hangar in PGD! I expect to still have a few items that will need attention as I continue to do a pre-flight inspection like it is my first flight each time. Do not take anything for granted. I will be writing an article about the build as well as the expectations that were…See More

The last few months have been hectic and seemingly slow going. In reality the construction of my 601 has been steadily moving  forward.Working with Flight Crafters out of Zephyr Hills, Florida, has been educational and fun. The guys there are very knowledgeable and seem able to handle any situation. The suggestions the make for upgrading engine performance on the Jabiru 3300 have been heeded and this week should be ready for first engine start! Last week we did the weight  and balance and week…See More

Licensed charterboat captain for 40 years. Got Sport Pilot Lic in July 2007. 750 hours to date. 450 in my 1946 Taylorcraft BC12-D. The plans are to get an amphibious plane. Love flying-love the water.Looking forward to learning more about aviation. 601 with Jabiru 3300 will be a great step in that direction! I like all the comments by members! Thanks!UPDATE Nov 7, 2014-I now have 280 trouble free flying hours with my Zodiac and this is a LOT of economical FUN! Those of you that are building, your day will come and you to will be flying. Keep the dream alive by getting to your local airport and finding someone to fly with. This can be done in any aircraft but preferably one like you are building. This flying stuff is COOL!
