Relocating the CH701 Header tank

I've been flying my 701 for over 20 years now. This winter it's back in the shop for a number of upgrades and general cleanup. As I have never been that fond of having the header tank in the cabin, I'd like to relocate it's functionality aft somewhere under the baggage compartment and get it out of the cabin. Wondering what others out there have done. I have two wing tanks to feed the header tank and I also have a fuel return line from the fuel rail regulator to consider in the overall…See More

I have been flying C-FCAM since 2001. Installed new RAM115 soob conversion 2 years ago. What a wild child on take off!!
I also fly a Vans RV9A that I finished in 2014. Its a real contrast when transitioning between these two aircraft!

Sorry to hear about all of your bad luck. Better flying days to come. Thanks for the performance numbers very informative.
Enjoyed 2 flight/4 hours in the Subaru powered CH-701 before a strong gusty crosswind slammed me on the runway hard enough to brake off the nose gear fork. In the repairing/maintenance to get it airworthy again.
Having a problem sorting out the coolant system (hoses material, routing, sizes and clamps). Any info would be appreciated.

Cam,

Just purchased a 701 with a Subaru EA81. I have Zero experience with Subaru engines.

I would welcome any comments from you with your vast experience.

Here is a couple of questions,

What oil do you use ?

What oil temp do you get at cruise ?

What water (coolant) temp do you get a cruise ?

What is your fuel burn versus rpm ?

Thanks Dick Jones at KUUV

Just sold my 601 with a Viking 130 because at my age it was getting harder to get in and out of the bathtub.

Hey Cam,

I haven't had much of a chance to catch up with you. Working on the fuselage now. Still planning on the ea81 for my powerplant. I got several parts to reduce weight, and make more power. I got the newer front nose fork, and matching post, lighter, and stronger. Charlie

Hey Cam, is your ea81 fuel injected? What was the weight? It is frustrating to see no alternative to rotax. I have never liked their motors, and certainly not their price. A buddy has the Suzuki motor, belt drive, in his, but I believe it to be heavier than the subaru. I feel really good about the quality, dependability, and durability of the ea81. Just wished it was lighter. The D motor is a great looking motor, just no support, or track record in the 701. Well one rep. Is in Canada. Not much help in the southern U.S. artillery has a nice set up, just waiting for their demonstrator 701 to.fly, still16+k for f2f, and engine, all at 220 lbs, less prop and spinner. Jabiru can't turn a big prop, and makes it's max h.p. @ 3100 rpm, being direct drive, you see the issue there. Sheesh where to turn for an engine. Thanks Charlie

Hi cam, is it me, or is the front fork turned around? Mine is turned around with the angled piece pointing forward.

Beautiful build though. Really like the front shroud.

safe flying.
