Announcement: New Aviation Marketplace

Hi All!Last year I finished my STOL 750 and put down the riveter.  Immediately itching for a new aviation-related project for the rainy days, I started work on an aviation classifieds website.  It's finally ready to unveil to the world, so I wanted to let my Zenith friends know about it.    If you'd like to check it out, the address is: grouphangar.comHappy building/flying!AaronN583MASTOL CH750See More

Life Insurance for Experimental Aircraft Pilots

Hi Guys,I had a little hiccup when I applied for additional life insurance this month.  My policy was set to be issued just fine based on my medical underwriting.  However, due to my involvement in experimental aviation, the company wanted to charge about 5 times the premium.  A $1 million 30-year term policy was going to cost me (31 year old non-smoker) $608/month!I checked around and found that most companies don't get excited about people who build planes in their garages.  I had almost…See More

Rotax ignition switches

I'm curious to hear from builders and fliers who are flying behind Rotax 912s regarding their ignition switch setup. I've read everything I can find online regarding the use of two toggle switches vs a key with left/right/both. Does anyone who has experience with the Rotax care to share their own experience with one arrangement or the other?   I have the ACS key in my panel and although I haven't flown yet I am second-guessing my decision. See More

Antennas

I found a great source for antennas that I thought I'd share with the group. Delta Pop Aviation makes several different antennas for experimental aircraft.  The antennas are priced very reasonably, and Don is really helpful and knows his stuff.  My conversation with him helped me to avoid some mistakes on antenna placement that undoubtedly would have taken many hours to fix later. Here's a link to their website:  …See More

Updated Garmin G3X

A couple of days ago, Garmin announced an updated G3X system which has more capability and an overall lower cost than before.  I'm really impressed with what they have done.  Here are a few of my observations:1. A really spiffy new integrated autopilot.  Cost is $750 per servo. They offer a nice optional control unit which taps in to a few really nice additional features.2. More flexible installation options because they split the AHARS/Engine interface module into two separate, smaller…See More
