Building 750 style flaperons for a 701 (and will steel flush-rivet them, for the heck of it).

็Hi Charlie,

I intend to try this on building a new pair of wings and not quite half way done. New tail feathers are considered too. Finally I might try it on rebuilding a new fuselage, to have the whole plane nice and clean.

Contrary to many builders, I am in no hurry for building. In retirement, I have time and (some) money to build my best airplane. I had flown my plane before rebuilding, and I can fly other airplanes while not finishing with mine. Recently, I learned that I could use 3/32" solid rivet for flush riveting instead of 1/8" stainless steel pop rivet. Cheaper and lighter. I have yet to practice with my new 3X rivet gun to use the solid rivet as the male die for dimpling while having a female die to match. A local dental clinic can x-ray the sample to verify the quality of work for a humble $1 charge! It pays to keep good friends around.

A 'cleaner' CH 701 may fly 5-6 mph faster with same power setting. I am not pushing for speed but want to fly same speed at a reduced power (and fuel consumption). Beside flush riveting, the rebuilt plane will have a number of mods to reduce drag/ increase lift/ lessen oil-canning. A few will actually reduce weight directly.

Best,

Champ

HI

This is interesting are you going to use it on your aircraft and what are you hoping to achieve with them if you don't mind me asking?

Regards

Charlie
