custom 4130 mount, strangely the main crack was in the tubing not propigating from a weld as you would expect. the aircraft is going to get a thorough strip and tidy up august this year, I plan to build a new mount at that time and heat treat it to stress relieve it, will use slightly larger diameter tube as well, time will be the test.

WOW!  Have you figured out what why it crack? Custom made mount or did you buy it?

when i had my annual inspection done we found a couple of hoses that could benefit from sleeving to prevent chaffing, while doing the work i found a crack in the engine mount, so i stripped the front of the plane and shot blasted the mount and found three cracks in all, one reasonable visible one and two just starting. all fixed now and back flying as of wednesday, will keep an eye on this in my preflight in future thats why i painted it a bright colour so any further problems will be easy too see.

That sucks!  What was the problem with the engine mount?

non functioning airplanes no fun, engine and most everything in front of plane removed for repair job on engine mount. job took a week to do and refit parts, then wait two weeks for good weather to test fly.
