Transporting Empennage
About 1 degreee F this afternoon with icy roads, but I managed to get the horizontal stab and elevator to the hangar with out incident.

My understanding is that salt is not put on our roads because it attracts moose. A small amount is mixed with the sand to keep it from "caking".

Never saw it in Fairbanks either. Salt stops working at about 5 below, so there wasn't much point. Sure looks like salt in that picture though. But like Bill said, the location probably makes a difference. I'm in Tennessee now, so I don't have a lot of worries about road salt.

Bob, I don't know about Bill's area, but I never see salt used on the roads in Anchorage.

Didn't have much choice. At least it is cold enough so no slush to splash through. Can't wait another winter season to pass without getting this project finished. Here in Wasilla we are so close to the salt water that I don't think the road salt will make that much difference, particularly if not splashing all over the place. I moved the wings yesterday and the last load - wing rack, top window and windshield today.
