Santapankki is a bank of sand, approximately 10 miles from the shore. Just a few hundreds of meters long and barely above the sea level but a nice spot to visit unless the sea is not too rough for our planes! Which it often is... Using as low speed as possible with full flaps for both landing and take off it was actually surprisingly smooth - I expected a rougher ride.

Hi Bob,

The water salinity is around 0.2 - 0.3% in the Gulf of Bothnia due to the rivers bringing in fresh water. Close to the shore it is obviously much less.. I don't think the salt water is a major issue here, at least we have not seen any signs of abnormal corrosion. Sure, steel parts get rust if the paint is damaged but it happens anywhere. Aluminium surfaces stay clear and shiny even if not coated.

We have been operating from the sea shore since 2012. This year we had to move the plane to a local river but it's still just a few kilometers from the sea.

Salt water ?  Any corrosion problems fly in that environment?
