The reason for all my troubles. Ten hrs past recent oil and filter change, where I accomplished a leak check uncowled, then short flight of about an hour then followed by retorque of oil filter. Next time I will be figuring a way to safety wire the filter and place witness mark as well.

Loren,  the ULP mx manual calls out for 15Nm torque on the filter (132 in lb / 11 ft lb)  along with a retorque/torque check after heating up the engine.

I have never torqued an oil filter.  If you don't mind sharing, what torque spec do you use, and where did you get that spec from?

Good integrity of the gasket.

Curious, what's the condition of filters rubber gasket?

Thanks gents, that's the "fix" I had in mind for the next oil filter  I'm starting to think my engine is allergic to oil based on the ways it finds to get rid of it. Crating up the engine tomorrow, shipping out early next week!

Stainless gear clamp & safety wire as Alain Dufresne picture shows. I have done this on my Rotax 912 engines for years. I have never had an oil filter "back off" but I have done this anyhow.

You might want to consider something like this:

Damn, that's unusual.

Gosh, David. How many more ways can your engine find to lose oil? I mean how many times has your car or lawn tractor or anything else had a filter back off ??? Guess I will plan on wiring my filer to something as well. Thanks for sharing. Tom
