I took the slats off that day to go about 5 mph faster (16 bolts and they are off or on) but suffered on the landing as it sinks faster when you get real slow and dont have quite the control that you have with slats I THINK hard to tell without more testing.  With slats on I have the VG's on still and in a power on stall can get the stick all the way back slowly with no break and still going up at 200-300 FPM fully loaded at 5-6000 density altitude, we just look at each other and laugh at the attitude you are in, just amazing, love this plane. I have the Rotax and love it due to the light weight so you can take STUFF with you and super responsiveness, motor spins up immediately. Right now about $10 and hour in fuel cost love it. Hope you are flying soon, you will love it.

Chris and I and a couple of pilots have a private strip in the HIgh Sierras at 4,500 elevation. We just finished the cabin and about 800 ft of dirt strip before the snows. Come spring, we should have about 1,800 ft total, and looking forward to some Zenith activities there next spring.

From overhead on a long base. The pools are about 20-40 ft across, quite an area.

Hi Chris, Looks like a pretty nice remote place to land is there a cabin ,what's its purpose and who maintains the strip ,also where is it? Do you feel that removing the Slats and adding the VG's was worth it, performance wise, what engine are you using. Tks Wayne JUST CURIOUS
