Kern Valley Airport is having a Backcountry Fly In May 5th-7th. Several Zeniths are already planning to attend and take advantage of the Sierra backcountry flying, the more the merrier. Contact Walt Snyder or Chris Brown if you're planning to attend and need local info.

Welcome to the KERN VALLEY AIRPORT BACKCOUNTRY FLY-IN located in the beautiful southern Sierra Nevada mountains of Southern California. Bring your planes and your families as we will have backcountry strip flying for the pilots, river and camping activities for the non-pilots, and fun for the whole family. For those attending the Kern Valley Fly In, this private strip is about a 15 minute flight away at 4,500 elevation. that's Chris Brown's 750 STOL during cabin construction.

Here's the approach by a Carbon Cub to give you an idea of landing to the north on the 900 ft strip. This is where the high descent angle of the Zenith STOLS really work in our favor.

Chris Brown's departure in his 750 STOL to the south. Again, can't beat a 200 ft roll at that altitude and high angle of ascent. The Maule drivers were whining about have to cut trees tops so their tailwheel wouldn't hit :) Of course, they are your best friend when you need someone to fly up the 4 burner gas BBQ…..
