Thanks, If all goes well I am about 6 months away from working on the panel, but I certainly want the carbon fiber look that you achieved.

Hey John;

I used 3M Di-NOc carbon fiber vinyl. I'd never used t before but was thoroughly impressed with the product. It has none of the usual qualities of vinyl. It doesn't create bubbles and you don't have to squeegee all the air out. It lays down flat and you hit with with a heat gun on low for a few seconds and that bonds it to the metal. Even better, if something doesn't come out like you like it - just re-heat to loosen, move it and heat again to re-stick it.

It's tough too. Through the process of installing all of the gauges and controls I have banged the surface with drill bits, screw drivers and other stuff. I know for a fact if I had painted the panel there would have been some scratches in it by now. Yet the vinyl has no marks on it whatsoever - err, it didn't until yesterday when the plastic chuck of my mini-drill ran up against it for a few seconds and it did leave a mark. This was on the side of the console so it's barely visible at all. Even then, it didn't scrape thru the vinyl, it just left a dull mark on the surface.

Another comment you hear about vinyl is that it twists when you install the instrument screws. That doesn't happen with this either (and least not to me). And I have not used washers under any of my instrument screws.

I couldn't be happier with this product. And you can buy it cheap on Amazon. I bought a 48"x12" piece for $25 to do the panel.

Looking great.  What did you use for the carbon fiber?
