Mike I'm with you on minimal priming. I built a plane previously and primed everything. Since then I have seen the inside of literally dozens of 40+ year old aircraft with no primer and no corrosion. To each his own. This time around I plan only to do things like ribs or angles and only where they touch other metal. On the previous plane I noticed the primer was easily scratched off soon after doing it but within a week or two had cured hard. I used a zinc oxide and a self etching gray primer from SEM that dries very quickly:

Also, I'm scuffing everything I prime with scotchbrite and cleaning it with acetone before spraying.

I tried 2 different kinds of self etching primer...duplicolor and rustoleum. I like the way the rustoleum sprays and durability better than the duplicolor. It drys pretty quick but it seems tougher if I leave it for a day. I'll also heat gun the part awhile and get them hot before I use them...not sure if that does anything or not but it makes me feel like I've baked on the protection lol. I went back and forth over using the zinc based products and decided that for me this will be sufficient. I almost went with no primer at all and planned on corrosion x treatment or similar but felt this was the best compromise. There's a lot of debate on the whole primer issue but I think having something between the metals was better than nothing.

Just curious... which PRIMER are you using? And how quickly does it dry?
