Notice the visible slplit at the edge of the "L" bracket - doesn'ty look all that bad until you take out the pads and look at the damage. I didn't think it was all that bad and decided to fly with the pads for thirteen hours.

Joe,

There is residue from a sticky tape that was on the gear side of the rubber pad during build.  You may have noticed paint that I put on before I assembled the gear. There is no chip on the gear - only the "notch" as required for assembly.  What I wanted all to see was the "cracked rubber" along the side of the "L" bracket on the underside of the gear.  That didn't look too bad so I flew until I had a chance to put in the new pads.  My suprise came when I disassembled the gear from the pads and found the cracking and splitting.  My suggestion is to make sure that you have the latest material pads - check with Roger or Caleb  at Zenith

What is going on at the chip at the bend of the gear?  Looks like stress from a hard landing but I don't understand the chip.  Is the gear coated or painted?  Also, trying to understand the next photo of the pads.  Did the pad split into what looks like four seperate chunks?  I am not that far in my build so I don't have any experience with that construction yet.  Looks like something to keep an eye on durring pre-flight.  Good luck.
