Vulcan ashes from Iceland over Europe

The Zürich International airport LSZH was closed on saturday, 17. april 2010 due the vulcan ashes from Iceland. As special event they opened the airport unlimited for VFR general aviation traffic, the asked not even for landing tax. I made with my 601HDS 3 touch and go on 3 different long runways. Normally I landed with B747 and MD11 on these runways.

Viktor, Great pictures! Thank you so much for sharing them with us. I noticed there is a small access door on your left wing between the baggage door and the fuselage aft of the spar. What is that door for?

Great photos, glad to see someone is flying over there. My wife and daughter were suppose to fly back to Canada on the 19th from Schiphol in the Netherlands. They have been rebooked for the 29th, lucky they have family to stay with.

Hey Victor, you enjoy overflying LSZH low and slow (great pictures by the way!) while I am stuck in L.A. for more than 10 days already due to this "ash problem"... Hopefully we find our way back to Munich tonight (and get perhaps the only chance in my lifetime to fly the 340-600 under VFR). I want to continue working on my XL :-))).

Hello Victor.
Great to see that something good came out of the Volcanic eruption in Iceland.
Here is a link I found from Boston, of a few excellent photos taken of the Volcano.

Hope you enjoy it.
I still have not been able to fly to the area, but any day soon.
Regards from Iceland.

quite a unique experience. Thank you for sharing these pictures! Was there a lot of VFR traffic?
