Nice sturdy redesign.

Top Job Louis. It's good to see that more and more people are realising that just because it is on the plans, does not mean that it can't be improved upon. Well done.

I swear I'll never get this particular web forum/blog thing figured out. This picture was intended to be attached to a PM I was sending to another 601XL builder. It didn't show up in the message, but did appear here. Maybe you can't attach pictures to a PM message. Maybe I clicked on the wrong button. Maybe I have no clue as to what I'm doing. Maybe I should read the instructions.

Whatever, I'd better explain the picture. I made a different aileron bellcrank. I decided to not go with the push-pull tubes. The cables work fine and lots of planes use cables with no problem. Our cables don't go around pulleys so no added control drag with those. I doubt the push-pull tubes are any lighter than the cables either when all the added parts are considered. My bellcrank uses the Aircraft Spruce bellcrank ball bearing (P/N BC4W10) and I pressed in bronze bushings (Aircraft Spruce P/N 04-01650) for the cable end connection. I figured this may give slightly less friction, but mostly reduce wear and possible cable loosening over time. Best of all the new bellcrank weighs 0.2 ounces less than the original including the attachment hardware. The original bellcrank mounting pieces can be used since the thickness of the ball bearing and the aluminum block with the 4130 bushing is the same. The distance from the rib is the same. All the geometry is the same, cable lengths the same, etc. Here is a pic comparing the original bellcrank and the new bellcrank.
