After installing door seals, I had trouble getting the needed leverage to close my doors. I turned, knurled, and bent the U-shaped attachment, then welded it to the original handle and powder coated red. I also slightly bent the tip of the retaining end of the handle to allow if to more easily slide over the door edge, making sure to not bend the portion actually holding the door closed. This setup works great and my doors are sealed up tight!

did you attach the lip to the existing handle somehow?

I made a U channel piece and riveted it to the existing handle.

Thanks John. I like your solution also. Did you remake the handle and incorporate a lip? Or did you attach the lip to the existing handle somehow? Either way - it looks good!

Great idea, Dan!  I modified my STOL 750 door handles by adding a "lip" to aid in grasping them to pull the door in against my weather seals:
