Wow David, glad you got her down OK.

Brian, the engine will need a teardown inspection with rebuild.  For cold weather flying I'm slowly building up a suitable overnight camping kit.  Not much room in a 750 for everything I would like to have though.  And, I always dress like I will have to walk out under worse case wx conditions or hunker down for a day.

Glad you are safe, and were (apparently) wearing clothing suitable for an extended walk in the cold after a forced landing.

Is it safe to assume the engine is a loss?

Comment by David J. Beaulieu on January 29, 2020 at 8:43pm

Loren, about a 30 minute walk, then 1.5 hrs for ride.

Catastrophic oil loss.  The engine gave me about a minute plus 20 seconds before winding down and stopping.  Last 20 - 30 seconds was in glider mode to only suitable landing area (nothing to potential poke or drown me).  My first dead stick landing with skis, no damage to people, place, or airplane.  More pics and info to follow.

What caused the forced landing?

That sucks.  Did it happen close to home, or take awhile to hike out?
