hi guys

ive been using a barrel sander to make my flutes on the rib formers. I bought the set at pricess auto(Canadian version of habor freight)

but to make each flute I’m using 2 sander drum cylinders.. I’m going to have to buy a set of cylinders for every 4 or 5 flutes at this rate..the barrel wears out pretty fast... the tool fits in my drill press... I must be doing something wrong or using the wrong tool

im wondering what you guys have used to do this... the tools and the technique

thanks

I did not make formers but I used fluting pliers, Aicraft Tool Supply or Aircrafts Spruce are sources, to curve and shape other pieces to fit the aircraft.

I used a 1/2" round file.

I used a rotary Rasp from Harbor Freight. Chucked it up in the drill press.  Then finish sanded with some sand paper.

+1 for the rotary rasp.  I did a few with my ridgid spindle sander with good results but I did go through a few drums, the rasp was a bit slower but never dulled.

I bought a rasp and I`m having good results

Thanks everyone for their input
